The Hockey Silhouette Collection. The collection for hockey insiders.
Beauty (Beaut) – A player or person who plays hard, has skill, and is a great teammate. “What a beauty, he blocked that shot with his face.”
Burnt – A defender who just got walked. Ankles broken even. “Oh. Johnny just got burnt.”
"Johnny, you okay?"
"Zip it".
Muffin - refers to a weak or poorly executed shot on goal. Such a shot is typically wobbling, slow-moving, lacks power, making it easy for the goaltender to save. "That muffin wouldn't make it through a wet paper bag".
Nope - The internal monogue for all goalies everywhere. Eg; After making a windmill save, she locked eyes on the shooter with a blank "Nope" in her stare.
Good Stick - A compliment given out to a strong defensive play performed with a player's stick. Eg; A great poke-check, pass deflection or a puck swatted out of the air preventing an offensive play. "Good Stick, Smitty!".
Hold the Blue - a strategy where a defenseman times their positioning at the blue line to stop the other team from entering the offensive zone. By maintaining this position, the defenseman can intercept passes, block shots, and disrupt the opposing team's offensive plays. This tactic is crucial for maintaining control of the game and preventing scoring opportunities. It is one of the defenseman's mantra as old as the game.
